Real Property (ad valorem) Tax Rates

  • Residents living in the City of Calhoun will have a 2018 millage rate of 29.844 mills. This is the total of Gordon County Government, City of Calhoun School Board, State Government, and City of Calhoun in the above table.
  • Residents living in the City of Fairmount will have a 2018 millage rate of 34.55 mills. This is the total of Gordon County Government, Gordon County School Board, State Government, and City of Fairmount in the above table.
  • Residents living in the City of Plainville will have a 2018 millage rate of 34.303 mills. This is the total of Gordon County Government, Gordon County School Board, State Government, and City of Plainville in the above table.

How to Calculate a Millage Rate & the Property Taxes Owed

Once a resident has used the table above to calculate their 2018 millage rate on a piece of proTax-Rates-2perty, it is possible to estimate the property taxes owed. First, the millage rate must be divided by 1,000. For example, those residents living in the unincorporated areas of the county will take the 28.803 mills from the table above and divide it by 1,000 (or simply moving the decimal three places to the left) so that the millage rate is expressed as.028803.

To estimate the amount of property tax amount owed, simply multiply the assessed value of your property by the millage rate. In Georgia, property is assessed for taxes at 40% of the fair market value that is on file in the Tax Assessor's Office.

Sales Tax Rates

Gordon County has a 7% sales tax rate distributed as mentioned:

  • 4% is allocated to the state.
  • 1% is allocated to Gordon County's Local Option Sales Tax (Lost). The county receives 63.35%, City of Calhoun receives 34.35%, the City of Fairmount receives 1.30%, and the City of Resaca receives 1% of the Lost.
  • 1% is allocated to Gordon County's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) that was voter approved during November 2017 for an additional six year period, April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2024, for specific construction projects.
  • 1% is allocated to Gordon County's Board of Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (Esplost) that was voter approved during November 2016 for an additional five year period, July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2022, for specific city and county school projects.
