Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. § 21-2-540, a special election shall be held in Gordon County to fill the vacancy in the office of County Commissioner District 3, caused by the resignation of County Commissioner Bruce Potts. The special election will be held on November 7, 2023. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Qualifying for the special election shall be held at the Gordon County Board of Elections and Registration Office, located at 100 S. Wall Street, Calhoun, Georgia beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6th and ending at 1 p.m. on September 8th, 2023. The qualifying fee shall be $180.00 for County Commissioner District 3.
All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the special election may register to vote through the close of business on Monday, October 10, 2023. Anyone desiring to register may do so by applying in person at the Gordon County Board of Elections and Registration Office located at 100 S Wall Street, Calhoun, Georgia, or by any other method authorized by Georgia Law.
Mail out absentee ballots will be available on October 16, 2023. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is on Friday, October 27, 2023. Advance/Early Voting will begin on October 16, 2023 at the Gordon County Board of Elections and Registration Office located at 100 S Wall Street, Calhoun, Georgia, office hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The last day to cast an Advance/Early ballot is Friday, November 3, 2023. There will be Advanced/Early Voting on Saturday, October 21, 2023 and Saturday, October 28, 2023, in the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office, from 9:00 am until 5:00 p.m.
Should a runoff election be required, such runoff will be held on December 5, 2023.
