Ag CenterAg CenterThis department, under the direction of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, distributes updated agricultural research material to local agricultural producers, farmers, and homeowners, assists them with their particular soil, insect, and disease problems, performs pesticide license education, and supervises the state-owned Northwest Georgia Livestock Pavilion. This department also administers the 4-H Youth Development Program, the Family and Consumer Science Program which consists of food safety and nutrition, and the Agriculture and Natural Resource Program which consists of agricultural waste management and environmental issues, horticultural programs, and agricultural awareness. The county contributes utility expenses and performs building and ground maintenance to this state-owned facility.

  2. LIVESTOCK PAVILION

Gordon County has completed the construction of the new Agricultural Service Center located adjacent to the NW Georgia Livestock Pavilion on SR 53 Spur in Calhoun. The new $2.5M, 14,000 square foot service center will bring three agricultural agencies together under one roof for a one-stop shop for the benefit and convenience of farmers and agricultural producers in Northwest Georgia. The new facility will house the USDA Service Center, Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission, University of Georgia Agricultural Extension Service, and a 2,000 square foot community room.
