Airport Authority
The Airport Authority operates and manages the county’s Class III airport, Tom B. David Field, located at 1957 U.S. 41 South.

Board of Elections & Voter Registration
The Board of Elections and Voter Registration registers all county citizens to vote and conducts all county elections and municipal elections on a contractual basis.

Board of Equalization
The Board of Equalization (BOE) consists of three members and three alternates appointed by the Grand Jury for three year terms.

Board of Family & Children Services
Gordon County Board of Family & Children Services under the direction of the Georgia Department of Human Resources, provides and administers all welfare and public assistance functions within the county including such programs as temporary assistance to needy families (TANF), adult Medicaid, food stamps, employment services, child and adult protective social services, foster care, and adoptions.

Board of Health
The Gordon County Board of Health is responsible for evaluating the health needs and resources of Gordon County, developing programs, activities and facilities responsive to those needs, and securing compliance or enforcing all applicable rules, regulations, and laws.

Board of Tax Assessors
The Board of Tax Assessors is responsible for determining what property in the county is subject to taxation, and for requiring its proper return.

Gordon-Floyd Development Authority
This joint development authority was created to promote the development of the jointly owned 65-acre Northwest Georgia Industrial Park located off of SR 53 and Hermitage Road in North Floyd County.

Highland Rivers Community Service Board
The Highland Rivers Community Service Board, a state funded Board, provides mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse counseling services to residents in eleven Northwest Georgia counties including Gordon County.

Historic Preservation Commission
This advisory commission, composed of five citizens appointed by the Board of County Commissioners for various year terms, protects and enhances local historical attractions, enhances opportunities for federal or state tax benefits regarding historic preservation, and approves designations of historic properties and historic districts.

Historical Society
The Gordon County Historical Society maintains Oakleigh, one of the most historic homes in the county, maintains a comprehensive library of records of the county’s history, supports the New Echota Historic Museum, maintains local landmarks such as Peter’s Plantation, Dews Pond, various cemeteries including the Resaca Cemetery, and co-sponsors the annual Battle of Resaca Reenactment.

Hospital Authority
The Authority performs various community services such as funding the emergency dental program for the city and county school systems and funding health related projects for various community organizations such as the Health Department and Fire Department.

Library Board
The local Library Board, under the direction of the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System, which serves Gordon, Whitfield, Murray, and Catoosa Counties and headquartered in Dalton, is responsible for operating the Gordon County Library Branch that has about 80,000 volumes.

Limestone Valley RC&D Agency
The Limestone Valley Resource, Conservation, and Development Agency is a public/private partnership with the USDA/Natural Resources Conservation Service which provides conservation, protection, development, and utilization of the natural and human resources in eleven Northwest Georgia counties. The LVRC&D provides five major programs – Wheels to Work, No-till, Upper Etowah River Alliance, Conasauga River Alliance, and the Solar Weather Station Programs.

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is a federally mandated entity composed of state and local officials, business representatives and members of the press.

Northwest Georgia Regional Commission
Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, located in Rome, is a multi-county organization consisting of 15 Northwest Georgia counties, including Gordon County, and all their municipalities. Major responsibilities of the RC include: (1) implementation of the Georgia Planning Act of 1989, (2) administration of the Area Agency on Aging, (3) administration of the Workforce Investment Act, and (4) providing planning and development assistance to member governments in areas they could not otherwise afford.

Planning & Zoning Commission
The Gordon County Planning & Zoning Commission reviews zoning and future land use map issues for the unincorporated areas of the county and recommends zoning and map revisions to the Board of Commissioners.

Region One Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council Board
North Regional Planning Board for Mental Health (MH), Developmental Disabilities (DD), and Addicted Diseases (AD) is a state funded planning Board that contracts with the local Community Service Boards and other smaller providers to fund MH, DD, and AD services to the citizens of 31 North Georgia counties including Gordon County.

Region One Emergency Medical Services Council
The Northwest Georgia Region One Emergency Medical Services Council consists of representatives from 16 counties including Gordon County serves in an advisory role to the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health, Office of EMS through the District Health Directors in all matters concerning Emergency Medical Services including regulating ground and air ambulance services, issuing ambulance licenses, approving training programs, ambulance zoning, and addressing complaints against paramedics and EMTs.

Tallatoona Community Action Partnership
Tallatoona CAP, Inc., a private non-profit organization, was founded in 1967 and serves low income and elderly residents in eight Northwest Georgia counties, including Gordon County. This organization operates the Headstart Program located on SR 53 in Sonoraville and the Human Resources Development Center located at 194 Newtown Road in Calhoun. The Human Resources Development Center offers indigent medical services, weatherization program, energy assistance program, job referrals, Angel Food program, surplus food program, and emergency food bank, among other services.
