Building Inspection & Permits

The Building Inspection Department is responsible for enforcing various county ordinances that regulate and protect public health, safety, and welfare as related to existing buildings and new construction in the unincorporated areas of the county as well as in the cities of Plainville, Ranger, and Resaca. This department serves as the first point of contact for residents and developers seeking assiBuilding-Inspections-150x150stance with flood plain management, soil and erosion control standards, land disturbing activities, and utility construction. This department issues all construction permits and performs plan reviews to determine code compliance. In addition, this department enforces the following county ordinances: Building Code Ordinance, Wetland Protection Ordinance, Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Ordinance, Nuisance Ordinance (unsafe buildings), Manufactured Homes Ordinance, Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance, and the Sign Ordinance. Also, this department assists the Planning and Development Department with reviewing subdivision development plans. This department generates revenue from building inspection and permit fees, land disturbing permit fees, and plat/development plan review fees.
