FINANCIAL REPORT

  • SPLOST & LOST 

    • SPLOST and LOST revenue shown in the report dated April 30, 2023 reflect collections reported for March. For that period, SPLOST collections were $1,251,982.47 which is a $102,879.29 (10.4%) increase over the same period last year. LOST collections were $752,887.51 which is a $25,185.70 (4.02%) increase over the same period last year.

  • BUDGET

    • Budget planning continues including a budget workshop with the BOC earlier this afternoon.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS & ACTIVITY

  • CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

    • 1960s Courthouse: On schedule for completion in August 2023.
    • Administration Building: Renovation work is now scheduled to begin in June.
    • Public Works Facility:
    • Reviewed schematic designs (v1) on March 27th.
    • Met with stakeholders on April 14, 2023
    • Reconstruction to occur on same site
    • Updated schematic is approximately 5200 sq ft
    • Salacoa Park Buildings (Phase 1): Expected completion by end of May 2023.
    • Tennis Courts: The Tennis Courts project will begin at the end of May 2023.
    • Evidence Building Morgue:
    • Met with stakeholders on April 21st and 26th
    • We are evaluating the possibility of having two different buildings in two different locations.
    • Quote expected at the May 16th BOC meeting.

  • NEW COUNTY WEBSITE

    • The county website, gordoncounty.org, is old and I.T. will be proposing new website software and services in two weeks.

  • COMPREHENSIVE PLAN 

    • DCA has approved the draft comprehensive plan. The plan remains open for public comment. The plan and comment form may be linked from homepage of the county website at gordoncounty.org.

  • SAFETY COMMITTEE

    • The safety committee met last week to review claims and claim resolutions. Gordon County receives a reduction in insurance costs and becomes eligible for ACCG safety grants by hosting quarterly safety meetings. Defibrillators at the Judicial Building are an example of items purchased with safety grant money.

  • ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

    • The Gordon County Development Authority met last week and received a marketing pitch from Thor on its Miller Ferry proposal.

  • GEOPERMITTING

    • Code Enforcement is completed.
    • Planning and Zoning is completed.
    • Business Licenses is almost completed.
    • Beginning Public Works Permits in May
    • The biggest part that is holding the project back is the payment processor.

MISCELLANEOUS ACTIVITY

  • Met with Advent EMS
  • Assisted Tax Assessor with a tax appeal to superior court
  • Met with representatives of Republic Services regarding Landfill operations
  • Keith hosted students from the UGA Cyber/Arch internet security program.
