FINANCIAL REPORT

  • CASH & INVESTMENTS

    • This report is in your material for review. Looking at the General Fund Cash balance, we are running $419,836 behind last year. This may be due to the timing of PILOT agreement payments.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS & ACTIVITY

  • JUDICIAL BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

    •  As we all know, the open house was delayed from March 10 due to elevator inspector issues. The great news is we have passed inspections and now have received a Certificate of Occupancy. The Open House is now scheduled for March 31st at 4 pm.

  • CHAMBER GOVERNMENT & COMMUNITY AFFAIRS

    •  This committee met last week. A topic of discussion included the committee hosting a candidate's forum for people that have qualified to run in this year's elections.

  • BROADBAND

    • I am scheduled to meet with Comcast team members on Monday, March 21st regarding our initiative to bring high speed internet access to unserved and underserved areas of Gordon County. Anticipated topics of conversation include: Status of engineering; construction timeline; community communication and engagement; permitting; and, utility partnerships. North Georgia EMC met with Keith King and me to introduce its willingness to partner with service provider(s) and Gordon County as part of our broadband initiative.

  • SEEFRIED DEVELOPMENT DRI

    • The NW Georgia Regional Commission has completed a DRI regarding Seefried Development Management, Inc for 51.3 acres at 962 Union Grove Road This property is shown as parcel 058-061 on county tax records. The property is currently zoned A-1 in unincorporated Gordon County but is annexing into Calhoun for an 800,000 sq ft. logistics building. Some points from the DRI are: the eastern driveway entrance is proposed on the limited access ROW of Highway 53 (f.k.a. Union Grove Road); Calhoun will require the developer to pay for sewer expansion and easement acquisition; and, USDA commented the project converts farmland and a conversion rating must be obtained if Federal Funds are used on the project.

  • OPIOID CLASS ACTION

    •  The class action appears to be close to settlement. However, the actual benefit to the counties of NW Georgia remains difficult to determine.

  • COMMISSION MEETINGS

    •  If all goes according to plan, our next Commission meeting on April 12th will be in the new Assembly Room on the First Floor of the Judicial Building.

  • COVID

    •  In the past week, Gordon County cases increased by 22 and Gordon County deaths increased by 1.
