FINANCIAL REPORT

  • SPLOST & LOST

    •  SPLOST and LOST revenue shown in the report dated March 31, 2022 reflect collections reported for February 2022. For that period, SPLOST collections were $1,056,489.18 which is a $248,875.89 (30.82%) increase over the same period last year. LOST collections were $669,309.03 which is a $157,301.23 (30.72%) increase over the same period last year.

  • BUDGET CALENDAR

    • The recommended budget will be presented to the BOC and public on May 17. A public hearing on the budget will be held on June 7 at the BOC meeting and Budget Adoption is scheduled for June 21, 2022 to go into effect on July 1, 2022.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS & ACTIVITY

  • JUDICIAL BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

    • The Judicial Building is open. The Superior Court will begin holding Court in the new courtrooms in May. Phase Two, the renovation of the 1961 Courthouse will move forward in May when possession of the building will be transferred to Momon Construction. The parking area closest to the building on the North side of the 1961 Courthouse will be closed in May as well and used for a staging area for construction.

  • ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

    •  County Administration has met with the Development Authority and its representatives on several occasions during the last month to address potential major projects that continue to look at Gordon County for industrial, logistics, commercial, and residential development.

  • ANIMAL ADOPTIONS

    • Gordon County Animal Control is currently offering free adoptions in response to an increase in the population at our facility on Harris Beamer Road Sue Henson reports that animal populations seem to be up across the region among other counties and animal rescues.

  • BROADBAND

    • Gordon County continues to advance its initiative to bring broadband to unserved areas of the county in partnership with Comcast.

  • CANDIDATES FORUM

    •  The Chamber of Commerce has announced a Candidates forum for those people who have qualified for the upcoming primary election. The Forum is scheduled to be held at the Sonoraville Recreation Center on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 6 pm.

  • VANDALISM

    •  Suspects have been apprehended in regards to vandalism that occurred at the Sonoraville and Calhoun Recs. These perpetrators spray painted graffiti on walls and they will be handled by Law Enforcement and the Courts. In another case, criminals have stolen all the trail signs and posts at Ft. Wayne. The Friends of Resaca Battlefield has ordered and picked up the tab for new metal signs to replace them. Parks/Rec. will install the new signs.

  • PARKS & RECREATION & HISTORIC PLANNING

    • The County has received inquiries from groups seeking to place historic markers at the Resaca Battlefield Park. The Historic Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation and Friends of Resaca are looking at policies regarding placement of signs or markers at the battlefield.

  • CALHOUN & GORDON COUNTY RELATIONS

    •  Calhoun and Gordon County continue to work well together on many levels for the betterment of our community. Some examples are: Gordon County Fire and EMA provided backup and assistance during the evacuation of Calhoun Healthcare; many county departments coordinate with the city on a daily basis; and, Chairman Hood and I meet with Mayor Palmer and Paul Worley on a regular basis to address issues of common concern such as economic development, transportation, essential government services and other issues.

  • CRANE EATER COMMUNITY CHURCH

    •  I thank Crane Eater Community Church for its support during the evacuation of Calhoun Healthcare. You may recall that EMA recently performed Community Emergency Response Training in partnership with the congregation at Crane Eater. According to EMA Director Courtney Taylor, the members of Crane Eater stepped up and provided a critical staging area, use of facilities and other resources that were of vital assistance in caring for our temporarily displaced senior citizens while they were being moved to other facilities. EMA is an available resource for other community members seeking to become CERT trained.

  • E911

    •  In recognition of National Telecommunicator's week, we extend a sincere thank you to our E911 dispatchers. Our dedicated E911 workers are the gold thread that links our citizens with emergency dispatch during some of our most difficult circumstances. It takes a special person and many months of training to become an emergency dispatcher. Once trained, they provide a priceless lifeline to summon first responders to our aid.

  • MISCELLANEOUS

    •  In addition to the items above, and regular duties, I have provided assistance to the Tax Assessors Office, Tax Commissioner, Clerk of Superior Court, Magistrate Court, Superior Court, Fire Department, Road Department, Elections, I.T; E911, Finance, etc.
